De la coopération à la mutualisation : naissance d’un partenariat au sein du réseau des bibliothèques universitaires du Québec

Richard Dumont, Loubna Ghaouti et Benoit Séguin

Abstract
Fifty-five years ago, Quebec’s university libraries laid the foundation for a cooperation that has only grown over time with the realization of various initiatives. In 2014, they decided to embark on a mutualization project whose objective would be the implementation of a shared platform of services. From the project planning stage, this initial idea quickly turned into an even more ambitious challenge : to create a common information ecosystem for all Quebec universities.

This article describes the progress of this project and the new partnership that Quebec’s university libraries have established.

Le Programme francophone des autorités de noms : une collaboration prometteuse

Julie Cardinal

Abstract
In June 2020, the Programme francophone des autorités de noms (PFAN) was officially launched. Inspired by the Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO), the PFAN allows the participants, Library and Archives Canada (LAC), Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), and the 15 francophone university libraries in Quebec, to maintain a common name authority file, Canadiana, in a collaborative manner. This article describes the main steps leading to the birth of the PFAN. It traces the initial discussions on collaborative cataloguing in Quebec and the possible creation of a common French name authority file, the history of Canadiana, and the formal agreements that paved the way for the launch of the Program. The vision, structure, operation and impact of the Program are also presented, as well as the support provided to the Program’s partners.

Catalogage collaboratif des bibliothèques universitaires francophones du Québec dans WorldCat : premier bilan et réflexions

Robert G. Bilodeau

Abstract

The Partenariat des bibliothèques universitaires du Québec’s selection of a cloud-based library services platform, OCLC WorldShare Management Services, and a discovery tool, Discovery, has radically transformed the cataloguing practices of the Francophone institutions’ cataloguing teams. With the migration of local catalogues completed in June of 2020, the Partenariat’s libraries are now engaged in collaborative cataloging practices within the WorldCat bibliographic database. This paper reviews the main features of the WorldCat environment, a true bibliographic ecosystem, and offers a brief assessment and general reflection on the adaptation of Francophone institutions to this new collaborative framework.
